META Tags are labels or information that are added in the HTML code of each page in a website to provide relevant information on the categorization of the website. The Meta Title Tag:
The Meta title tag acts as the Title of the page and display on the Browser Tab. Title must consist of keywords present in the website. When writing the title tags, make sure to speak directly to the content included on page otherwise we may be penalized by the search engines. Furthermore, it is recommended that the Meta Title Tag should not exceed 65 characters. However, You will not be punished if you type longer titles but Google will only show those first 65 character. Anything beyond generally will not be visible to users.
The Meta Description Tag:
The Meta description tag or description tag acts as a DESCRIPTION of the page and also must consist of keywords and phrases that summarize the content of the web page. When writing the description tag, it is not recommended that the Meta tag exceeds 160 characters. Anything beyond generally will not be visible to users.
The Meta Robots Tag:
Below is an example of the code that makes up a Meta Robots Tag. The index information is telling you to follow the search bots to index the website and follow the links in it. This Meta tag is useful to provide information to the search bots on what should be indexed and how they should do it. Generally, the default settings should be below we see but sometimes can be interesting change. e.g. For a special promotion just want it to be accessible via a direct link from an emailing campaign.

Canonical Meta Tag:
Canonical Meta tag is used to prevent search engines from indexing duplicate content within a Web page. The Meta tag rel = “canonical” is used to indicate the address or URL of the home page when you can access a page from two different URLs.
There are more important Meta tags, such as meta <lang> tag used to show the search robots the language of a web page or the meta <chartset> tag used to indicate the encoding format of the website, which, as a rule is usually UTF-8.
